The Issue
A number of Tasmanian towns were on boiled water alerts – meaning the build-up of biofilms and other contaminants was so high it was a requirement to boil tap water prior to drinking.
The Solution
Conventional pigging was used to clean and refurbish the pipelines using a purpose design and fabricated ADFLO pig. The effectiveness of these pigs was demonstrated to decision-makers and the project went ahead in 15 towns. Bio-films, slime, manganese and iron deposits removed, and water flows and chlorine residual readings were restored to acceptable Australian Drinking Water Quality Standards, verified by post-treatment lab testing.
