The Issue
Tthe town of Bingara is within the Shire of Gwydir’s footprint. Most of the town’s 35 kilometres of pipelines were commissioned 50 years ago and have never been cleaned. Heavy deposits of manganese, iron, and bacteria reduced flows and compromised water quality. Council built a new water treatment plant for Bingara so cleaning and refurbishing current infrastructure was a natural progression.
The Solution
Pipelines of varying sizes were cleaned and refurbished using pipeline scouring. At the same time the existing infrastructure was audited with irregularities, faulty hydrants and poorly operating valves were reported to Council, and system reticulation maps and GPS data were updated.
